“Many of my paintings are inspired by things I see in the course of an ordinary day that strike me as extraordinary, others by what’s going on in the news. The Rally, for example, with all these people in a frenzy, is about the Presidential campaign. There are so many different issues, high feelings and controversy, promises of this and that. And then there’s always the naysayer, the clown in the foreground. He’s thinking, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’
“For Plaster of Paris, I got a few of friends together for an afternoon of mask-making a few months ago, and voila . . . beauty, excitement, mystery.”
Susan is a winner of this year’s Santa Fe Mayor’s Art Award and Plaster of Paris will be exhibited at the awards ceremony in mid- October. It will also be included in the forthcoming book, “100 Southwest Artist.”
